5 apps to use when creating TikTok short-form videos

The thing we love most about TikTok is how easy it is to make videos using the app itself. The editing tools are great, the music library is extensive plus there are easy to add transitions and effects (and it is way better to create in comparison to Reels!). However, there are a few external apps that we use frequently to create our videos, helping to take them to the next level. Here are 5 that we use daily/weekly with our clients:

TikTok Creator Centre

The TikTok Creator Centre is where you go to find trending sounds, hashtags, effects, creators and topics. It is an external site that can be accessed on a desktop or phone. You can get access for free, or sign up to get more details on each topic. You can also see what is trending for businesses and which commercial sounds are popular.

SnapTik

Snapptik.app is a free app that removes the TikTok watermark on your videos, ready to upload to YouTube Shorts, Pinterest, and Reels. Simply copy the link of your TikTok video and paste it into the box then press download - this then saves it into your phone’s downloads or photos if you prefer.

InShot

We usually create our videos in the TikTok app but occasionally we will use the editing app InShot. We use it for creating slideshows of images and speeding up original videos but you can do so much more such as adding backgrounds, sounds, captions etc. We use the paid-for version which is 15 dollars per year meaning their watermark is removed.

Capcut

If you are on TikTok you will have seen videos that have been created using CapCut - people sitting on a boat floating to the Titanic theme tune for example. CapCut is an app used for editing but they also have trending templates and as it easily links to TikTok (they are owned by the same company - ByteDance) you can create it externally and save it into your TikTok drafts. See a video that looks cool on TikTok made with CapCut? Simply press the CapCut button on the video and you are then good to go to make your own version. We use the free version as the watermark removes if you save your creations into TikTok. If you want to save yours onto your phone it will cost 8 dollars per month.

Canva

Canva is a great alternative to InShot as you can create slideshow short-form videos here but we feel this is a bit clunky compared to what you can do in the TikTok app itself. We tend to use it for TikTok videos that have a branded look and feel, fonts and colours for our clients. However, it is worth remembering that TikTok doesn’t need to be as polished as other social media platforms and users love to see real people talking.
