How To Use Pinterest Successfully For Your Service Based Business

The biggest question I get asked about Pinterest is this: Does Pinterest work for service based businesses? They see how powerful it is for product based businesses but wonder whether it will work for coaches, personal trainers, marketing professionals, hair stylists, photographer and the like. The good news is Pinterest is great for all businesses and indeed is our number one traffic source and we are absolutely a service based business! Here’s how in 3 steps (many of which you will be doing already).

Write blogs, create podcasts or videos that your ideal customer will love

People go to Pinterest to find answers to their questions or problems, to get ideas and inspiration - all of which a service based business can provide. Create a programme of useful content such as blogs, videos or podcasts and then create header pins for them (scroll down to see the header pin for this blog post). These need to then be pinned to Pinterest (if you have 10 suitable boards you can pin the header pin 10 times - create 5 header pins you can pin them 50 times and so on) linked to your business. When you do this use key words that will get you found for that subject matter or question. Even better make them a Rich Pin so the pinner has more incentive to click through to your awesome content.

How To blogs, 5 ways to blogs, The Ultimate Guide blogs all will be perfect for this.

Want to know what makes the perfect pin - come on The Indie Guide To Pinterest. In module 2 I take you through how to create a header pin that gets results as well as the best ways to optimise it.

Show up as the expert that you are

Create content that showcases yourself as the expert that you are - then create header pins that link to it. Think about and write a list of ideas that show you as knowledgeable then create a variety of content including videos. Teach them something that they really know either in a How To blog or how about creating a lead magnet or guide that shows them how fabulous you are. This is great for people starting our in their chosen field, such as starting their own business or wanting to get fit - they will be searching for content like this so provide it!

Be the face of your brand

People buy from people - fact. Seeing that there is a real person behind a business increases trust and loyalty which is vital for service based businesses as most of the time, customers buy into YOU. Create pins with your face on it; header pins, video pins, your advice…..anyone looking at your Pinterest account needs to see you not just your work.

Next change your avatar to your face rather than your logo. You can also engage with people on the platform - next time someone reaches out to you, send them a friendly message back. Get talking, show that you are the expert and THE person for the job.

See, Pinterest is not just for product based businesses! We have 3 Pinterest accounts for the 3 businesses we own - and none are product based. We get 13 million monthly views and 27% of the traffic comes from there. That’s pretty cool right?
